TOXIC CULTURE

A strong culture promotes effectiveness, whereas a TOXIC Culture becomes a destructive force that destroys people and the organisation. Organisational Culture (OC) shapes both daily personal and organisational life.

Organisations are made up of people. A TOXIC person is someone who regularly displays actions and behaviours that hurt others or otherwise negatively impacts the lives of the people around them. These actions and behaviours if left unchecked, become a norm. Norms are generally inferred from observing how members behave and interact with each other and is an element or feature of a culture. After time, these norms become ingrained in the organisational system.

Culture refers to the deep structure of an organisation. OC is a powerful tool that can be used to either build up people or sadly indoctrinate the mind and control people.

Leaders, stakeholders and employees will derive great benefit from understanding their organisation’s culture. It is recommended that organisations conduct annual OC surveys, educate their employees in OC and use these results to constantly improve their OC to increase their Organisational Effectiveness.
