FUTURE TRENDS IN DEVELOPING AN ORGANISATION AND HOW TO STRATEGIZE ACCORDINGLY.
The world of work will change. In the future, everything will revolve around efficiency. An effective organisation will attract and retain talented and committed employees by developing a different culture and workplace.
People want to be part of something they can believe in – something that confers meaning on their work and their lives – something that involves a vision and mission.
The following 4 strategies could be implemented to achieve such an organisation:
- Shared vision
– Envisage an endlessly changing organisation by transitioning to a Learning Organisation.
– Develop a self-renewal capacity (self- renewal means building innovation and commitment to change into the organisation’s values).
– Hold a clear strategic vision of the future.
- Empowerment
– Empowering employees to act (given the autonomy to do things).
– Promoting continuous learning.
– Empowerment leads to involvement.
- Learning Organisation
– Using learning to produce better products and better services.
– Constantly developing the learning capacity of the organisation.
– Constantly transition to becoming a learning organisation.
- Organisational Architecture
There are five elements of organisational architecture:
- Strategy: the core approach the organisation will use to accomplish its goals (Placing learning in the centre of the organisation’s strategy).
- Structure: How people are situated in units and how their work is coordinated.
- Systems: The process used to add value.
- Skills: The capabilities of the various groups of people in the organisation.
- Culture: The values, norms and assumptions that shape behavior.
Three common misalignments:
- Skills and strategy misalignments.
- Systems and strategy misalignments.
- Structure and systems misalignment.
A roadmap for getting started:
- Start with strategy.
- Look at supporting structure, systems, and skills.
- Decide how and when you will introduce the new strategy.
- Re-shape structure, systems, and skills simultaneously.
- Close the loop.
